Challenging

The Fairfield horseshoe is a great challenge to push yourself for a longer endurance walk. Starting with a steep climb at Nab Scar most of the height is gained. You’ll hit many Wain Wrights such as Nab scar, Heron Pike, Great Rigg, Fairfield, Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike and Low Pike. As you walk around the horseshoe, you’ll see Grasmere on your left then Helvellyn as you make your way to Fairfield. The walk back to Ambleside is a gradual incline back into the town as you look over Windermere.

This walk is great training for anyone wishing to take on the Yorkshire, or National 3 Peak Challenge.

It takes approximately 7 hours to walk the full 16.6km.
